Help Us Recruit More Supporters!

The upcoming November 4 election, and the October 20-31 early voting period, present a great opportunity to recruit Texas voters to join the effort to permit Instant Runoff Voting in Texas.  This is especially true in races like the Special Election for U.S. Congressional 18th District, where it appears likely that there will be a runoff. There are also a number of local races around the state that could result in runoffs. Voters may be receptive to our solution to eliminate the need for costly, low-turnout runoff elections.

If you are interested in helping, please email me at [email protected]with your location, interest in IRV, and willingness to help us recruit more supporters. After we connect, I can help you with materials and support to canvas at a nearby local polling place to let people know about the benefits of Instant Runoff Voting and how they can help us to make it possible in Texas!

Start Using Instant Runoff Voting in Your Everyday Life!

IRV for Texas focuses on the use of instant runoffs in elections.  But there are so many other uses.  An easy way to introduce RCV to your friends is to use it!

How do I do that, you ask?

Here’s how to run your own ranked choice voting election

You are a member of a book club.  Your book club needs to decide which ONE of the five books nominated to read.  There are several free applications that you can use to determine the winner.

Along with some “How To’s”, Fair Vote has produced a comparison chart of all of these applications.

Joanne Richards, our Vice Chair, is a member of a book club that uses OpaVote for its book selection.

Here were the ballot choices:

  1. Apple in China by Patrick McGee
  2. The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larsen
  3. Trust by Herman Diaz
  4. Listening to the Law by Amy Coney Barrett
  5. Charles Sumner: Conscience of a Nation by Tameez
  6. Science Under Siege by Mann & Hotez

Here was Joanne’s ranking:

  1. Charles Sumner: Conscience of a Nation by Tameez
  2. Science Under Siege by Mann & Hotez
  3. Trust by Herman Diaz
  4. Listening to the Law by Amy Coney Barrett
  5. The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larsen
  6. Apple in China by Patrick McGee

After all book club members voted, OpaVote did the tabulation to determine which book gained the widest support.  In the above case, the winner was: Science Under Siege.

You can do this too and share the experience with others so RCV becomes more familiar.

This article from NewsMax explains how conservatives can benefit from Ranked Choice Voting.

The 2025 Elections Using Ranked Choice Voting

This article lists the cities and counties around the country using RCV in public elections in 2025. Austin passed a provisional ordinance for using IRV in municipal elections, when the Texas election code is updated to allow it.

How to End Our Zero-sum Politics

There are lots of positive reforms Americans can get behind to renovate our democracy, but ranked choice voting (RCV) would be the most meaningful for those looking to put aside polarization and gridlock for the cross-partisan work that is the foundation of a stable nation and prosperous economy.
