New Leadership to Propel the Next Chapter
of IRV for Texas

We are excited to share several significant leadership updates effective October 1 as we gear up for the upcoming legislative session.

Welcoming Our New Executive Director

Following a generous donor commitment to help fund this critical role, we conducted an extensive search and are thrilled to announce that Nick Reed has joined us as Executive Director. Nick brings a deep background in Texas politics and law, having served on numerous campaigns across the state -- including Bill King's nonpartisan Houston mayoral race in 2015 -- and most recently serving as Political Advisor for the British Consulate-General in Houston. Nick's expertise will be invaluable as he leads our organizing, outreach, and strategic legislative efforts across Texas.

Board Leadership and Transition

Alongside Nick's arrival, our Board of Directors is transitioning into an expanded leadership structure to support our next phase of growth:

Harriett Wasserstrum, Founder & Chair Emeritus: After years of tireless leadership founding and building IRV for Texas, Harriett is transitioning to Chair Emeritus. We owe an immense debt of gratitude to Harriett for laying the groundwork for electoral reform in our state, and we are fortunate to continue benefiting from her counsel.

Greg Armstrong, Board Chair: Greg has stepped up as our new Board Chair. A longtime advocate for IRV for Texas, Greg has previously served as a Board Member, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Joanne Richards, Vice Chair: Joanne will continue her vital service as Vice Chair, providing steady strategic continuity on the executive committee.

Mary Beth Gilbert, Secretary: Mary Beth steps into the Secretary role to oversee board governance and records.

David Comeaux, Treasurer: David assumes the role of Treasurer, stewarding our fiscal growth and resources as our operations expand.

With dedicated executive leadership in place and an aligned board team, IRV for Texas enters this upcoming legislative session with unprecedented momentum.

Thank you for your continued support as we build a more representative Texas!

Ask Congress to Support the Voter Choice Act

Ranked choice voting is one of the fastest-growing voting reforms in the nation, now used across 50 cities, counties, and states.

Ranked choice voting gives voters more choice and more voice, ensures majority winners, and reduces negative campaigning.

The Voter Choice Act (HR9634) would provide support to cities, counties, and states that choose to adopt ranked choice voting - making it easier for us to strengthen our democracy from the ground up.

It would empower communities across the country by giving them the option to embrace ranked choice voting. The bill lowers the barriers for state and local governments by covering costs and technical support associated with moving to a new voting method.

We Rely on Grassroots Donations

There are so many people who either haven't heard about IRV or have received misinformation about it. Reaching those people takes resources and time, but it is imperative to get the correct message to them.

Please consider making a one-time or recurring monthly donation to help ensure that our work to improve Texas elections can continue.

What We're Reading

Where Will Ranked Choice Voting Be Used in the 2026 Elections?

In the 2026 elections, Alaska, Maine, 11 cities, and two counties will use ranked choice voting (RCV) - a voting method that gives voters more choice and more power. In Alaska and Maine, RCV will be used in major House and Senate elections that could determine control of Congress. It will also be used to choose a governor, mayors, city councilors, and other officeholders across the country.

The ranked choice voting "confusion myth"

Shaky political science: RCV opponents, including a handful of political scientists pushing alternative methods, claim that RCV is confusing. But is that really so?

Major Political Reforms Favored by Both Democrats and Republicans in the Battlegrounds

As Americans' trust in US political institutions remains near an all-time low, new battleground surveys of nearly 20,000 Americans reveal bipartisan majority support for major political reforms. These findings come from surveys conducted by the Program for Public Consultation (PPC) in 11 competitive states and 28 competitive House districts.
